Eigentlich wollten wir nur unser Frühstück an der Bar in unserer Unterkunft einnehmen, doch wurden wir unmittelbar in ein Gespräch mit einer japanischen Reiseomi neben uns verwickelt. Ich kam bei ihrem Redeschwall und meinen höflich gemeinten Antworten kaum dazu, einen Bissen von meinem Hotdog zu nehmen. Als ich es doch geschafft hatte, ein Stückchen Brot in meinen Mund zu schieben, fragte Mayumi, unsere Airbnb Gastgeberin auf japanisch, ob wir den Weg zum Bahnhof zu Fuß schaffen würden. Ich antwortete kauend mit einem zustimmenden „Hm“, worauf mir Ayumi auf die Schulter schlug und meinte, wie gut ich japanisch verstehen würde. Das war der Startschuss für die Reiseomi in mörderischer Geschwindigkeit und eine unaufhörlichen Wortschwall auf japanisch mit uns zu reden. Unser lächelndes Nicken schien ihr als Antwort zu genügen und so erzählte sie weiter, während wir unser restliches Frühstück aßen.
Dann liefen wir zur Station und fuhren nach Omihachiman. Zuerst besichtigten wir die alten Straßen, in denen viele traditionelle, alte Häuser standen. In einem kleinen Restaurant ließen wir uns nieder und aßen das örtliche Gericht: zartes Rindfleisch (regional bedingt „Omi“ Fleisch) und rote Teufelszunge, ein rot eingelegter Glibber. Manchmal geht es mir in Japan so, dass ich mich in einem gefühlsmäßigen Zwiespalt befinde zwischen dem göttlichen Geschmack einer Speise und deren absolut seltsamer, meist wabbeliger oder geleeartiger Konsistenz. Dann bleibt es spannend, ob der Appetit oder Würgereiz die Oberhand gewinnen.
Nach unserem leckeren Essen, spazierten wir noch etwas durch
die Gassen und am Kanal entlang, bis wir uns, nach einer Eispause, selbst mit
einem Kahn auf den Kanal begaben und uns schippern ließen. Dabei vergaßen wir
kurz die Hitze, entspannten auf dem Kahn mit dem Fahrtwind im Gesicht.
Am Nachmittag nahmen wir einen Zug nach Sakata Station, von
wo aus wir einen gute halbe Stunde durch Reisfelder liefen, die gerade
bewirtschaftet wurden und hier und da eine Schar Kraniche beherbergte. Auf
einem Parkplatz wurden wir von dem Besitzer eines winzigen Imbiss-Mobils
angesprochen, der uns sein Essen anpries. Wir liesen uns sein Angebot zeigen,
kauften je eine Portion Hühnchen- Tintenfischbällchen und bekamen sogar noch
eine Portion Hühnchen geschenkt. Mit unseren neuen delikaten Errungenschaften
erreichten wir endlich einen kleinen Campingplatz mit Anschluss zum Strand des
Biwa Sees. Natürlich mussten wir hier ins Wasser springen!
Da es in der Nähe unserer Unterkunft nicht wie gewöhnlich einen Supermarkt oder Conbini gibt, stiegen wir auf unserer Rückfahrt eine Station früher in Nagahama aus, um dort einkaufen zu gehen. Vom Angebot des riesigen Supermarktes waren wir wieder völlig geflasht! Für total wenig Geld gibt es hier riesige Sushi Packungen, Getränke, Süßes,… das einzig teure ist teilweise das Obst: einen Apfel für knapp drei Euro, Pfirsich für vier und Trauben für fast siebzehn! Allerdings sind die Früchte hier so gigantisch groß, dass wir uns spaßenshalber so ein Riesenkaliber leisten.
