Der neue Tag bei uns startete wieder am Hafen. Nur zehn Minuten dauerte unsere heutige Schifffahrt nach Taketomi. Wir sind kaum angekommen, da stiegen wir schon in einen der kostenlosen Shuttleservices, die von den hier ansässigen Fahrradverleihen gestellt werden.
Wir bekamen zwei Drahtesel und starteten sofort unsere Tour. Beschwerlich war jedoch, dass es heute unerträglich heiß war – noch heißer als in den Vortagen. Ich hatte allerdings aus meinen Fehlern gelernt und war heute langärmlig und –beinlig unterwegs. Zunächst fuhren wir noch ziellos durch die Botanik und ließen die Gegend auf uns wirken: Viele kleine Häuser mit Vorgärten und Steinmauern umrandet, reihten sich aneinander, verbunden von teils Sandstraßen, teils total löchrigen Asphaltstraßen. Wenn man melancholischen Gesang und Geklampfe vernahm, konnte man sich sicher sein, dass der nächste Ochsenkarren nicht weit ist, denn die stapften hier als Hauptverkehrsmittel durch die Gassen.
Da wir uns vorgenommen hatten, in der größten Mittagshitze nicht unterwegs zu sein, machten wir uns auf in Richtung eines kleinen Restaurants, dem „Take no Ko“, welches auf zahlreichen Webseiten empfohlen wurde. Und das spürte man: Vor dem Restaurant lag eine Warteliste aus, in der man Name (mittlerweile mental einheimisch, trugen wir uns auf japanisch ein), Anzahl der Gäste und den Wunsch, ob man draußen oder drinnen essen möchte, vermerken musste. Dann nahmen wir mit vielen anderen Gästen im Wartebereich unter Palmen Platz und verschnauften erst einmal. Laut Liste war Familie Kobayashi vor uns an der Reihe, sodass wir uns seelisch und moralisch darauf vorbereiten konnten, demnächst aufgerufen zu werden.
Das Lokal war total klein und urig, genau wie seine Bedienung. Wir aßen Mittag und schmiedeten den Plan für unser weiteres Vorgehen. Zuerst sollte es an den Kaiji Beach gehen. Ein kleiner Strand, der dafür berühmt ist, dass man sternchenförmige Kieselalgen an ihn finden soll. Die ballernde Wärme hielt uns allerdings vom langen Suchen ab, sodass wir lieber im Schatten eine Pause einlegten und ein kleines Glas der Algen an einem Verkaufstand kauften. Selbstgefunden waren die ja auch, nur eben nicht von uns.
Dann fuhren wir weiter zum Kondoi Beach. Hier wollten wir eigentlich schnorcheln gehen, aber da gerade Ebbe war, war kaum Wasser dafür da. Wir drehten also noch eine Runde mit dem Rad und kehrten in einem kleinen Cafe ein. Wir genehmigten uns zwei Kakigori (gecrushtes Eis) mit Milch und braunem Zucker und schauten dann noch zu einem alten Kai. Als wir sahen, dass das Wasser auf dem Rückmarsch ist, düsten wir erneut zum Kondoi Beach, um wenigstens noch einmal kurz die Beine ins Wasser zu halten. Das hielten wir aber keine 5 Minuten aus, denn aus der erhofften Abkühlung wurde nichts. Mit 30 Grad Wassertemperatur (im Meer – wie geht das?) hatten wir beizeiten die Nase voll und beschlossen, uns schon eher von unseren Rädern zu trennen und mit dem Zubringer zum Hafen und zurück nach Ishigaki zu fahren.
