Bei unserer Ankunft in Nagasaki wurde am Bahnhof ein riesiges Begrüßungskomitee in Form einer Kapelle aufgebaut. Wir hatten leider keine Zeit abzuwarten, welche Art von Musik uns hier erwartet hätte, denn wir hatten es eilig. Mal wieder!
Den Weg zum Hostel fanden wir im Schlaf ohne Orientierungshilfe, denn dies ist unser dritter Aufenthalt im Akari. Wir bezogen unser Zimmer, packten die nötigen Sachen um und nahmen schnell den Umweg über die Bank, um Geld zu tauschen. Dann  fuhren wir mit der Straßenbahn zum Hafen, von wo aus wir mit dem Schiff nach Hashima, der ehemaligen Kohle-Abbau-Insel, fahren wollten.
Problemlos fanden wir das Büro, welches diese Schifffahrten anbietet. Doch anders als vor vier Jahren, wo wir bei der gleichen Tour die einzigen Ausländer gewesen waren, war heute ein ganzer Raum gefüllt von nicht Japanern. Uns wurde ein kurzer Film über die Geschichte der Insel gezeigt, ehe wir, von den winkenden Mitarbeitern verabschiedet, unsere Reise antraten. Auf halber Strecke kam eine Mitarbeiterin im roten Shirt und verteilte strahlend Bonbons. Wir durchliefen erst die 3 Fotospots und umrundeten die Insel anschließend komplett mit dem Boot. Hin- und hergeschüttelt vom Seegang standen wir am Geländer auf Deck und ließen uns den Wind (Orkan trifft’s eher) um die Nase wehen.
Ebenso gut wie den Weg bisher, fanden wir den Coco-Walk, eine riesige Shoppingmall (die ich vor wenigen Stunden noch in Hiroshima vermutete) und in der wir uns zu wenigen Spontankäufen verleiten ließen.
Da wir bei unserem letzten Aufenthalt hier von dem einen All-you-can-eat-Restaurant so angetan waren, wollten wir dort unser Abendbrot erlegen. Der Weg dahin ist ziemlich abenteuerlich und ich meine zu behaupten, dass man ihn nicht ohne fremde Hilfe finden würde: man muss zunächst einen Bio-Laden durchlaufen, in dessen Rückseite sich die Treppe befindet, die nach oben zum Restaurant führt. Eine Mädchen-Fußballmannschaft war allerdings fündig geworden und blockierte laut kichernd das Buffet.
Da der Tag bis dahin zu gut lief, musste nun der Pflichtteil folgen. Wie überzogen unsere Betten und schnürten unsere Sachen, um ihnen die nahe gelegene Waschmaschine samt Trockner von innen zu zeigen. Während die Wäsche ihre Runden dreht, spazierten wir hinunter zum Fluss, in denen Schildkröten und riesige Karpfen schwammen und über dem unzählige Fledermäuse nach Insekten jagten.
Abschluss des Tages sollte der nächtliche Überblick vom Berg hinter unserem Hostel werden. Auf dem Weg machten wir kurz Zwischenstopp bei Ryomas (Nagasakis Nationalheld) Schuhen, in deren Nähe ein Geocache versteckt war. Der Besitzer legt ständig kleine Schlüsselanhänger in die Box, die dann vom Finder kostenlos mitgenommen werden dürfen. Eine äußerst schöne Idee, wie wir finden.
Der Ausblick vom Berg aus, war das Steigen der vielen Stufen wert – ganz Nagsaki lag im leichten Dunst, glitzernd dank der vielen Lichter.
