Leider wurden wir am Morgen wieder mit Regen überrascht. Nichtsdestotrotz ließen wir uns nicht davon abhalten mit den Zug in den Kibi Distrikt zu fahren. Wir frühstückten erst ausgelassen in einer Bäckerei am Bahnhof – und die sind in Japan sooooo lecker – und dann fuhren wir in ländliche Gefilde. Wegen des Regenwetters hatte der Fahrradverleih leider geschlossen, also zogen wir zu Fuß los.
Ein kleiner Schrein erweckte zuerst unsere Aufmerksamkeit. Eingebettet von Bäumen und umgeben von einem Teich lag er idyllisch auf unserem Weg. Im Teich blitzten überall kleine Köpfe hervor und ließ vermuten, dass es hier Schildkröten gibt. Meine Berufung für heute war entflammt: füttern!
Ich bröckelte mein ganzes großes Brötchen auf Schildkrötenmundgröße und versuchte jeder einen Happen abzugeben. Am Ende stapelten sich die Tierchen schon im Teich, so viele kamen gepaddelt.
Schwer zu sagen, wer nach einer halben Stunde glücklicher war, aber für mich hatte sich der Ausflug schon gelohnt.
Mehrere Kilometer liefen wir durch Reisfelder, an einem Kanal entlang und immer begleitet von Schmetterlingen, Fröschen und Reihern.
Unter dem Dach eines weiteren Schreins ließen wir eine starken Regenguss vorbeiziehen, ehe wir uns mit dem Zug wieder auf den Weg nach Okayama und nach einer Pause in der Aeon Mall in Richtung Hiroshima begaben.
Hier übernachten wir in einem kleinen Hostel direkt am Bahnhof mit einer völlig umsorgenden Rezeptions-Omi. Nachdem sie bemerkt hatte, dass der Versuch in die Dusche zu gelangen fehlschlug – weil besetzt – klingelte kurze Zeit später das Telefon und Omi gab Bescheid, dass das Bad jetzt sauber sei.
Am Abend machten wir wieder einen kleinen Abstecher zum A-Bomb Dome, der immer wieder eine ganz besondere Stimmung ausstrahlt.
